    1. Matt Faulkner. Black Belt (2000)Intended for children approximately 5-8 years old. This story is set in modern-day Japan where a young student named Bushi is being bullied by some of the older kids in his school. While being chased by the bigger kids bushi runs into a building to hide from them. It turns out he has entered a karate dojo. While snooping around the studio Bushi finds the master's black belt and decides to try it on. Upon tying on the belt, Bushi has vision that takes him back to A [...]

    2. A little boy is bullied by the older boys at his school and one day when he stands up to one, he gets himself into even bigger trouble. In his mad dash to get away from their pursuit, he ends up in a dojo. While in the dojo he puts on a black belt and is transported to another place and time where he is taught some lessons about being brave.Very nice illustrations.

    3. Though the illustrations are beautiful, the story itself would work better as a middle grade book. Black Belt is much too long and difficult for a picture book.

    4. This book would be more appreciated in the 7+ age vs. the younger audience typical for picture books. Lots of action and fighting.
