    1. This is the third John Heldt novel that I’ve read. "The Fire" is the sequel to "The Mine" and "The Journey." Our hero, Joel Smith, from "The Mine" returns as a geology professor to Kevin Johnson, an upcoming college graduate. Being that it was his last summer before grad school, Kevin takes a mini vacation with his family (his mother being Shelly Preston from "The Journey") touring an old city that was destroyed by a fire over a hundred years ago. Then, one night, Kevin discovered something th [...]

    2. This time-traveling adventure was inspired by major historical events: the great fire of 1910, caused by the Halley’s Comet which led to a huge wildfire. This science fiction novel weaves romance with time-travel. Throw in an adventurous twenty-two year old, who can’t help but to meddle with with history, and you have yourself a great read!I really liked Kevin because of his chivalrous nature. His character won my heart when he paid the debt of a prostitute’s father – so that she no long [...]

    3. So much was of interest in this time travel novele setting in Wallace, ID (the state of my birth), the time period (where there were modern conveniences mixing in with the horse and buggy days), the historic fire that leveled much of Wallace in 1910(loved how the author gave Kevin memories from his grandfather to guide him during the fire.) The author made me think I could just find this old stone building in Wallace and travel to another time in Wallace. Some things concerned meke teaching his [...]

    4. Recently graduated from college, twenty-two year-old Kevin Johnson is visiting the small town of Wallace, Idaho with his family when he stumbles across a hidden diary and a cache of early 20th century gold coins in his late grandfather’s home. Kevin’s plans for a quiet summer change drastically when he discovers that the home’s old wood shed is a portal to the 1900s and the treasure was hidden away by his great-great-grandfather Asa Johnson, ancestral patriarch and apparent time-traveler. [...]

    5. What would you do if you found yourself with the unique ability to travel back through time? Would you take a risk and do it? That is just where Kevin Johnson finds himself after joining his family to go through his grandparents house in Wallace, Idaho. Kevin just recently graduated from college with two majors in Earth Science and Physics. Now while attempting to kill a spider in his room, he spills an ice tea and discovers the tell-tale marks of a hidden storage space beneath the wooden floor. [...]

    6. Once again, author John Heldt blends history, time travel and romance. Once again he has created another warm and wonderful read with his signature brand of writing! The Fire, at first glance, seemed to be a little lighter than his previous time travel romances, there seemed to be more of an adventurous spirit in his young hero, who makes a few trips back, knowing he may be interfering with history, but unable to avoid the pull. Over 100 years in the past, Kevin’s heart tells him he has found [...]

    7. [Full disclosure: John Heldt gave me an ARC of his latest novel in exchange for an honest review.]John Heldt is probably the only man that can make me consistently cry. And that’s a good thing!Kevin Johnston is the son of Shelly Preston, our protagonist from The Journey. As you may recall, an older Michelle had time travelled back to see her younger self and her story did not end well. So you could say time travelling is in the family and that Kevin can’t get away from it, especially when yo [...]

    8. The Fire (Northwest Passage #4) by John A. HedltThe Fire, the sequel to the Journey follows young Kevin Johnson to his deceased grandfathers' home in Wallace, Idaho in 2013. There he discovers his great grandfathers diary, and a portal that takes him back to 1910. That is the year of the worlds biggest fire and Haley's comet. He learns he can travel back and forth between 2013 and 1910. Once there he makes friends and has the opportunity to help some people. He even meets the woman of his dreams [...]

    9. I was impressed with this book. Once again you see Joel and Grace through the eyes of one of Joel's students. Kevin travels back in time to 1910 when his family goes on vacation and visits an old family home. In 1910 he learns about love and family. He meets a woman, falls in loves and wishes to bring her to the future.  He also helps others with his wealth, and he becomes a teacher in a town that needs educators. Along the way he has to decide to change the past or let the world go on, even th [...]

    10. I was disappointed by The Fire. Now, don’t get me wrong! It was a splendid novel but it just wasn’t quite as good as The Mine and Indiana Belle.Read the rest of the review here!~Kellyn Roth, Reveries Reviews

    11. The FireI love the thought of time travel, this was pure ecstasy. Thank you John Heldt. This novel held me captive throughout the adventures and heartache. I highly recommend this novel to fellow fans of time travel.

    12. Good readI thoroughly enjoyed this book and will look for others in this series. Kept me reading and wanting it to go on past the end into a new adventure.

    15. The Fire: John A. HeldtThis is book 4 in series. I haven't listened to the first three.Kevin Johnson goes on vacation with his family after college graduation. He discovers a time travel portal and the adventure begins. There is plenty of mystery and suspense and even romance. The listener will be kept on the edge of their seat waiting to see if his dreams will come true. The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Chaz Allen performance was entertaining."I was voluntarily pro [...]

    16. I was a little wary starting this book, as it is #4 in a series, and I had not read any of the previous books. No problem there! Couldn't even tell it was a series from reading it. This book deals with Time Travel, the 1910 appearance of Halley's comet, and the Great Fire of 1910. A young man, just graduated from college and uncertain of his life's path, finds a stash from his great great grandfather in the bedroom of the house his family is readying for sale, leading him into delving into time [...]

    17. Compelling look at a bit of our country's historyAlso, being laced with the story of a time traveler, gave history a sci-fi edge. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes both.

    19. Source: received from author in exchange for an honest reviewThe Fire returns readers to the magical world of John Heldt's Northwest Passage series, a place where the past intersects with the present and characters have the ability to change not only their destinies, but also the destinies of the people they love. Though the plot may seem familiar from previous installments of the series, the characters make the story their own. Smart, caring, confident, and thoughtful, these are people with who [...]

    20. 5 out of 5 for this reader folks!Man can John A Heldt write one heck of a story! Once again I was completely captivated and sucked into a story that was full of possibilities and consistently delivered chapter after chapter. The Fire by John A Heldt is the fourth book in his Northern Passage series and while we get to visit a few familiar characters this particular book is the sequel to his book The Journey. This story follows Kevin Johnson (he is the son Sally Preston from The Journey). Kevin is [...]

    21. They say some things run in the family; i.e. blond hair, blue eyes, height, alcoholism, etc. but never in a million years did I guess that time travel could as well! When Michelle from The Journey took an accidental trip back in time to 1971 she altered history enough that instead of a loveless marriage to a controlling man, she instead married her best friend and went on to have two children, Kevin her oldest and his sister Irene. I am guessing that Kevin never once expected to follow in his mo [...]

    22. "The Fire" is certainly my favorite book in the Northwest Passage series. "The Show" was my least favorite, and I feel that everything that I struggled with in "The Show" works significantly better here.Looking back at the prior three stories, three characters are thrown back in time. The first becomes temporarily homeless, the second contemplates suicide, and the third becomes depressed due to the separation from her children. Here, Kevin Johnson is encouraged to have an adventure. He can effec [...]

    23. It's June 2013 and Kevin has just graduated from university. He and his family head to Wallace, ID, to clean up his late grandfather's house to sell it. When his parents and sister go away for a couple days, Kevin finds a diary, old coins and diamonds in a secret hiding place under the floor. Kevin reads the diary and realizes that his ancestor, Asa, who had owned the house, was a time traveler and the portal is in the backyard. On a lark, Kevin checks it out and discovers he has sent himself ba [...]

    24. This review was first posted on Music, Books and Tea.There is something I find incredibly comforting about reading the latest installment of the Northwest Passage series. I’m not entirely sure what it is, but I have enjoyed every single book of this series so far, and The Fire was no exception to that rule. I love how all the books in this series are connected to one another in a way. The Fire reintroduces us to Kevin Johnson, who we last saw as a child at the end of The Journey, the second bo [...]

    25. The Fire by John A. Heldt was gifted to me because I enjoy The Northwest Passage series. He didn't request a review, but here goes anyway. The 1910 fire which devastated much of Montana and Idaho is the backdrop for The Fire. Set in Wallace, Idaho, county seat of Shoshone County, the story describes the destruction of that city. More than that, it is the vehicle whereby author John A. Heldt spins a tale of love, loss, history, humor and morality. The Fire is at times heart-warming, heart-rending, [...]

    26. I absolutely loved this story and I'll tell you why: bear in mind that read the book in three days and ( due to personal circumstances ) am now only writing this review on 11 July 2016 and can still recall quite clearly what I thought and felt whilst reading the book. The story involves time-travelling - a fantastical subject that, taken at face value, would probably exclude all but science fiction aficionados, the naive and the curious. But if that in fact is the case then those who are put off [...]

    27. While on a family trip to Wallace, Idaho, Kevin finds a relative’s secret diary that explains the shed in the back yard is actually a time machine. Being young and adventurous, Kevin decides to have a go and is transported to 1910. He makes friends, develops a positive reputation within the town, and even lands a serendipitous position as a school teacher. Kevin’s reason for staying in 1910 for as long as he did is a lovely lady named Sarah. Additionally, he meets a second young lady (Sadie) [...]

    28. NW Passage Book 4I've been making my way through this series, as I did with Heldt's other series, and I like each story. They are individual stories and the characters travel through time, whether it is for a better place or new life, or both. This time, Kevin is making his way through time, traveling between eras when he finds the hidden portal. It's filled with intrigue, humor and romance, as he takes on the journey of a lifetime.

    29. I received a free e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. In this sequel to The Mine and The Show, readers follow Kevin Johnson as he discovers his grandfather's secret cache that contains treasure and a journal with the location to a time portal as well as instructions on how to use it. Feeling adventurous, Kevin decides to visit 1910 briefly and finds himself captivated by a beautiful and captivating woman that he cannot seem to stop thinking about. After returning to his own time [...]

    30. *I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*This by far was my favorite book of the series. It may be the sequel to The Journey, but it also brought in characters from The Mine and The Show as well. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what became of Joel and Grace Smith. The Fire follows Kevin Johnson, the son of Michelle (the same Michelle “Shelly” from The Journey). It’s easy to see that the desire for adventure doesn’t fall far from the family tree. Kevin puts c [...]
